Today They've Murdered Cartoonists, Tomorrow They Will Come After You

Regardless of how racist, Islamophobic and arrogant, as its being suggested, reported and said across the sphere of Internet today, the reporting and publishing of Charlie Hebdo Officiel is or was, what happened on 7 January should not be justified. Not by saying 'oh, they were racist in their portrayal,' or 'their cartoons reeked of Islamophobia' and blah and blah.

So what IF it was?

Secondly, regardless of whether you agree with the notion of free speech or not, or how you may feel the liberals (west in particular) use it to and for the profit of their hidden agenda (whatever that is), those cartoonists (and others with them) did not deserve to be shot dead for it.

So what IF they mocked Islam?

Moreover, if you feel (because let's face it you are really not the thinking kind) that people -- who offend you with their wit, sarcasm or through the portray of caricaturing someone or something you hold high -- need to be taught a lesson for their such acts and the lesson is that they be massacred by the self-proclaimed managers of such overly sensitive deities, you really need to start analysing whether what you are feeling is derived out of your own incompetence to comprehend that if your religion can be shaken by a mere piece of cartoon than your faith in your religion is catastrophically misplaced.

In the end, try to feel (because as I said before you really are not the thinking kind) beyond the bullshit of religion and what it tells you to do and feel. Do try! Because if keepers of religion can murder cartoonists today, tomorrow they won't even blink an eye before murdering you, whether or not you drew something.

By David Pope
And as a friend tweeted earlier, "Cafe goers, school children, cartoonists. No one is spared." - is this what religion teaches? To kill?

Sigh!

A Comment On How We Make Anything A Norm In This Society

By Sadho Ram

Sexist representation of women is not something that is new. In fact it's so widely and regularly done, that most of the times we don't perceive it as sexist. And when we do, we either try to ignore it or simply shrug it off as 'it goes' attitude (and for those who object, we tell them to have a sense of humour).
You see, that's the thing about how such things -- things that never should have happened in the first place -- become a norm in the eyes of the society.
Every sexist representation of women that -- we accept, ignore, shrug off OR lecture others to have a sense of humour about -- only adds to the norm. It only, each time with more authority, establishes it as something that's not wrong, something that's cool and something that is not happening, because that's what every sexist representation of women tries to prove.
And, it won't stop. Because, thanks to each one of us, sexism has indeed been made to appear as if it doesn't happen anymore. Or so it seems.

And that's how you make a norm.

Parasites!

By Sadho Ram

…and you thought I’m dead. And you celebrated my death. And you laughed. Hysterically. Insanely. Knowing that I’m dead. That I now am burnt to cinders. And you uttered your frustration of not being able to utter it while I was living. While I had what you considered not mine. But yours.

You feared that I would bring you out of your ignorance. Your age old slumber. Your blind hope. You feared that I would shatter your love for superficial things. Artificial beliefs. And you panicked. You shivered in your slumber. And you decided to kill me. You decided to hang me by my own rope. And you did it. You killed me in your foully ignorant thought. And now you are moaning? Because you know it hurts. Now you feel the pain that I told you would.

But you are afraid. Still too weak to show it. So you laugh. So you celebrate your own failure. Your own death at your own hand. You… you ignorant son of a conscious whore. You loathing seed of a foolhardy man.

You know it takes honesty. And you know it well. That thing called honesty to confront honesty. As it takes a hand to shake another. As it takes lips to kiss another. But you did never consider it a part. It was just a trait. It was only an option for you. A mere excuse for you to hide. To take refuge when you needed. When your own failure haunted you. So you played a game. A game of seeing the reality as it should and accepting the make-believes as it was intended. And what did you do, you courageous carrier of deceit and failure? You chose the latter!

Of Vultures of The World and Lovesick Crow!

By Sadho Ram

‘When the ‘sexed’ vultures of the world are eyeing the cuckoo,’ I said to my friend, ‘She doesn't fall for the ‘love-sick’ crow.’

‘Crow?’ asks the friend.

‘Yes, you idiot, that's me.’

Hell, the ‘crow’ still makes an effort though, however lame it is. And then vultures yell and the ‘horny-ies’ bark- ‘bow, bow... look at him! Got what he deserved. (bow, bow, and bow) instead of kissing she pissed on him, bloody piss-taker... bow, bow.’

I howl back ‘fuck-woof, you bastards.’

‘Damn, have I become an animal too?’ I then think. Yes, yes, yes... that's what her ‘socially cultured’ rejection has caused. A loud cry of pain erupted within and an animal was aroused. Ho, Ho, Ho, Haw, Haw, Oo-hoooo!

‘Is it a crime to like a ‘blue legged’ bitch? Or is appreciating her is committing a sin?’ The animal in me now gets thinking.

Ha!

‘You see now, O’Dea’ friend, what the ‘... cultured’ rejection has found? The ‘creepy & awkward’ animal which eats ‘sweet candy floss’ gets profound.’ Oo-hoooo!

‘So, what’s the end conclusion, my animal friend?’ – Inquires the sane.

One of the vultures gets the cuckoo,
Takes her high on his flight, yuhoo!
Then ignores her plight
And bangs her tight!

‘That, my friend, is my version of conclusion, mixed with total jealousy and oozing hatred as perfect solution.’

You and Your Lunacy

By Sadho Ram

There dwells an ugliness
in these perversely disgruntled eyes
seeing, witnessing and distastefully savoring
the loathsome ugliness of yours, and your existence
that you, ever so miserably, oh so naïvély, try to cover

to put a pitiable façade, consumed by the ignorance and
filled with the belief that rots the pores of your stinking skin
and bottled up lies, dressed and well-prostituted,
Sold in the name of hope and miracle..

Ah, you and your lunacy, pleasures me much!

The Ever Futile Search For Substitutes

By Sadho Ram

Strange kind of species we are – we humans! Always crying and moaning over the gone era. Always reminiscing about the time went by. Almost living in the past we are. We cry over the fact that no one writes letter these days. But we forget another fact, much stronger – that we are now more connected to each of those people who matters to us, and also connected to the world like never before.

The news of our loved one’s reaches to us in an instant. We now don’t have to wait for weeks and months to hear from them. They are just a call or a message away, always at reach. Though far but still near, almost as if close, as close as we want them to be.

I’m aware though that the kind of emotions letters often carried is lost due to our today’s instant messaging, but then aren't we ourselves are responsible for it?

Our hunger, which can well be called as vulgar greed for more, makes us blind. So blind that in our attempt to explore, we go to such length and height that we actually become monsters, and eat away what gives us satisfaction and then search for substitutes in the name of betterment. But there is no substitute for such stuff in life. There never was, there never will.

So either embrace the new sun or die sulking. The choice is yours, because whatever happens here, you are included. For if this is a crime, then yes, you are a partner-in-crime!

..and oh, you cannot exist by trying to escape the reality, and the sooner you realize the better you will be able to embrace the world as it is!

Condemn a Writer to Hell and When a Poet Dies. Rejoice. Celebrate!

By Sadho Ram

Writing is a profession of the downtrodden and despicables. For there is nothing more disgraceful than being a 'writer.' For writers are but the carrier of unfulfilled dreams and failed destinations. And, they deserve your strongest of contempt. Condemn them to hell (if such a place exists), or simply neglect them and they will die the very death they keep frightening you with.

And, there's nothing more disgusting a creature than a poet, you see. For a poet's imagination is the reason behind the sadness that prevails in other peoples lives. Precisely the reason why I keep saying that the lives of others depends on a poet and his illusionary imagination. Which is nothing but a sad, sad reality in this sadistic world.

You see what a poet does is not simply write poetry (which at times is shittier than the shittiest of shit the mankind produces in abundance every morning).

What a poet does is that he essentially cripples the mind of the people.

You will ask how?

Well, a poet makes you a slave to his words and stops you from thinking for yourself. And once you become a slave to a poet's work, you start depending on him for things you would never depend on others. For his words don't give wings to your imaginations. They only act as an illusion. It's his own imagination in which you are made to fly or something like that. You start depending on him in such a manner that you expect him to give words to your emotions, expressions to your motions, and tell you how things work. And I will be honest with you here, to me that is just pathetic.

So when a poet dies. Rejoice. Celebrate!

Throw a party and use the pages from his books as napkins, and before you toss the used pages away, make sure the words appear like as dark, unreadable blots. For that is the kind of respect he deserves. For you see, the day a poet is born, is the day mankind dies a death.

Therefore, do not ever mourn a poet. And, never cry for a writer whom you condemned to hell.

Be In The Moment!

By Sadho Ram

Be in the moment. I'm learning to be. You too can try, it's not that hard, you see.

Smile when something good happens, cry when you feel down. Don't hold yourself back, don't put a leash on your emotions thinking that this moment will pass. It will, yes. But that doesn't mean you stop appreciating the moments in your life that makes you feel―be it anything, good or bad―doesn't matter!

What matters (and should only actually matter) is that you enjoy the very moment in which things may be perfect and not ruin it by contemplating that soon it will not be the same. I know it's damn hard to control the urge to not let the negativity do the waltz inside you, but until and unless you try, and try you with all that you hold inside, how can you succeed?

I mean things are never the same, are they? So shouldn't we focus our attention on the present situation (whatever it may be) and take it as it is?

Remember, life is what happens to you in the present when you're too busy making plans for future!

I Will Be Judging You!

By Sadho Ram

I will judge you on the basis of what you do for a living and I will judge you on the premise of your thinking. I will judge you in every single step you taketo move ahead or to step back! I will judge you by the colour of your skin and by the tone of your voice and the manner in which you speak.

I will judge you in the light of the day and in the darkness of the night. I will judge you by the language in which you take pride and I will judge you by how you treat those who doesn't. I will judge you by the religion you follow, and by the beliefs you stand by. I will judge you for your godlessness. I will judge you by how you judge others. I will judge you in your worst. I will judge you in your best and I will judge you even in your mediocrity and by the hypocrisy you possess. I will judge you no matter.

For I am the society that commands and rules over you, and so I will judge you by the name you go by and I will judge you by who you claim to be and I will judge you for blaming others of being judgmental of you. I will judge you in your dreams and in your nightmares too. I will judge you in everything you do.

For I am the source where you come from, and so I will judge you by how you eat, walk and sleep. I will judge you for every whistle you blow. I will judge you when you are not wearing much and more so when you are fully covered.

I will judge you, I will judge you, yes, I will judge you ― whenever I so wish to do.

You tell me, what are you going to do?

My Idea of Romance!

By Sadho Ram

Author's note: It was written back in 2010-11, as a result of a very lengthy discussion on my Facebook profile about how when we associate ourselves with a cause, IT IS our moral obligation to fight for it till the end. No matter what. To be honest, this is an incomplete write-up of the whole idea of romance that I have, but sadly haven't been able to get down to it and complete it. Maybe, someday I will, let's hope! For now, this is what it is..

The word – Romance, regardless of the magnitude it carries in its meaning, is but a much underrated word. It though continues to flourish today, but its reach as well as its breeding is limited. Its usage in terms of the way people use it, is barricaded to emotional love between the two human species – male and female. But Romance is not limited to just between these two flesh and bone subjects. As such, as it never should have been, but shockingly it has, either forcibly or deceptively. Today, when I look around, I see no Romance. Oh, leave romance; I see not even a tint of it.

There is this other thing called self gratification prevailing all around the Globe in a manner and speed, which is beyond any earthly comparisons. People, in their desire (which too, get born by /from observing the activity of other people) to be different in a manner they think that will make them attain uniqueness, are but becoming impostors.

To explain my above statement, I will request you to consider, for instance, the “Save Tiger Campaign” (in India) by several media houses and corporate organizations. Whatever has been done has only been done on papers and screens only. That too, without any, and I can say this much that with Zero concrete outcome. TEHELKA’s Chilling Exposé is the blatant proof!
As “Save something campaigns” have become fashion statements these days, people pick one depending on their choice/life-style, as they pick clothes, and then make some noise. What happens after that, no one gives a damn! Whether that “something” lived, died or whatever is of no concern for anyone. Because what matters for them is the visibility of their campaign, the self gratifying pleasure that they squeeze from it. Not the authenticity or the purpose for which that particular campaign was initiated.
And I’m not generalizing everyone in this generalized statement. I understand what certain people – the artistic kinds and few other tribes; feel or might feel about issues and factors affecting and plaguing our society, and I’m in very much in awe towards this nature of theirs and carry tremendous amount of respect for them in my heart. But that is not the point here, the point is, people today are applying the “herd mentality”everywhere they can or want to, and in everything. And this is very dangerous, because, while they are at it, they are at the same time also not aware of their selves being at it. It’s like sleep-walking. You are walking, but you do not know you are indeed walking, because you are not awake, therefore, not aware.
You don’t start or initiate a campaign just because your neighbor did and got famous. You ought to have something concrete to do so, something valid. Something which gives you not just the self gratification, but the purpose of fulfillment because of the initiative and the steps taken in regards of it. You ought to have the gut to fight it out, even if it demands your blood. Yes, blood!
I know all this sounds too ridiculously romantic but then that is the purpose of it, that you make love – Romance – to it. As this is the way you make love to something or someone. To speak in the tone you would understand – it is something that when you feel about someone in a very emotional manner. Say, for the most simple example, if you are a man and feel for a woman, and are willing or are determined to do anything that circumstances or in circumstances she might demand you to do, and you will do it, without much consideration of the outcome that your action might have on you or on your life personally. Because you know, if not for her, your life has no other purpose or meaning. Because you have given away yourself to that cause which is her. Because you realize she is your purpose or campaign, which you must save, because you initiated it, and now she is your duty above everything and everyone else.
So, when you feel about some issue affecting a certain section of society, you ought to have that romantic attitude you are supposed to have when you are in love with a woman as a man or towards a man as a woman or in similar sex and are willing to do absolutely anything for your partner’s sake.
And this is my idea of romance, where I attain ultimate freedom only when I give myself completely to the cause which I have chosen. And it does not necessarily need to be a social one, nor does it need to be for the betterment of humanity or any such kind. My cause can perfectly be me. I can be my cause and dedicate myself towards it. As for me, life is too small to live for others, I live it for myself. I do not help anyone. I do not intend to do so. Although certain people, at certain time, may have or might benefit from my actions. But that’s purely non-intentional and also completely coincidental.
When speaking about the ‘whole’, I understand the limitations that a certain major section of it has, carries, or builds. But that’s precisely what’s it’s all about that all those limitations are but the creation of their mind, their own self. As my friend, Mrinal, phrased it up perfectly – “The defined capacity, the sphere of life beyond which they can’t tread.
So, WHO defines the capacity but, the sphere of life beyond which they can’t tread?
Well, it’s the same person, who wants to support the cause or dedicate his or her life towards it. And if that person starts freeing himself or herself rather than restricting or limiting himself or herself with preconceived notions, conventional rules and regulations and boundaries then there would actually be no “defined capacity, the sphere of life beyond which he or she can’t tread“.
Consider this little analogy; a man is like a lion. A wild one. Angry yet calm! But at the same time restless too. He walks as if he rules the land beneath and he looks at the sky as if he is acknowledging the fact. As he should, indeed! The entire earth is his forest; he roars and with it thunders the entire vicinity, he hunts and hunts like a king ought to do – with ferocious wildness! But he does all this, while he is free. Once he is caged, behind the iron bars, for the entertainment of mass, in the name of hypocrisy born from the mass’s own greed, he is no more than a motor-operated toy. He is not there, inside that cage with his own wish or choice, but is there, forced, by outer forces. And so, he now awaits the two moments, the first of his approaching last breath and the second of reproaching hope of his freedom before his death, because he is unable to do anything else. But man isn't  he though resembles the lion, but is above him in something a lion can never have – mental superiority and the ability of rational clarity which comes from within but is realized by endurance of years and years of desire to have what he wants, what he deserves and what belongs to him – his self. His own self, or to say in simple manner – freedom. Because, no life, without a cause or purpose, irrespective of its nature, can ever attain the freedom which belongs to it and for which it longs.
Life, without it – cause or purpose, is exactly like that caged lion, who knows that freedom of wild is what he deserves but he will never have it, until he frees himself from the cage. In the similar manner, you might know what you want or deserve, but will never have it, till you make yourself wholly committed to it.
So, in my idea of Romance, if someone is voicing his or her opinion on a certain issue, say for example, the disgusting whiff coming from the gutter, it does not necessarily mean that he or she have to go literally down under the gutter to clean it. He or she can implement/execute means via his or her opinion to do so. But he or she has to be completely romantic towards it i.e. truly committed at voicing it out till it’s finally heard and done by the concerned parties/agencies/department undertaking the particular job.
In romance, what matters is that when you feel about it or for it, you be true to it, in whatever form that you find yourself drawn to it. Like for some men, when they are in love with the woman they dream about, all that matters to them is that they keep looking in her eyes. Nothing else matters. In the similar manner, if one is romantic about voicing just his or her opinion, one should just do it. And keep doing it. Continually. Voice it out. Simple. Straight. Voice. Voice. Voice and voice. Because for that person, voicing out his or her opinion, in the idea of romance, this is what will define it and the true purpose of it. That he or she be true to himself or herself and the path that he or she chose. And did not just pick it up, because the passerby was doing it or for better excuse, oh, my neighbor or the person I admire is speaking for it.
And it doesn't matter that people or organisation and governments will listen to you or there will be some concrete actions be taken upon your voicing out your opinion on the issue, however valid. But what matters and what actually should only matter is that no person, organisation or government can tell you to shut up and sit down. Because you know what you are doing and why you are doing. Because you know you are right and you have a right to voice your ‘voice’ till the time you are being true to your purpose. But, whatever you do, whatever you may oppose or support, whatever means you may take for the cause, the purpose, or your romance, should never be at the expense of other people’s life.
And that is My Idea Of Romance!

We Are The System!

By Sadho Ram

If the system is represented by the criminals or people who are charged under criminal offences, who therefore are elected by the society, which therefore is a result of who and what we are, than are we not the biggest of all criminals? We blame the politiciansthose who come to power courtesy our votesfor everything that is wrong with the country today, but we fail to see that we are the root cause of everything. We're the most corrupt. Hiding in plain sight, not letting go of even one opportunity where we get to put the blame on the politicians and how this system is being run.

For example, consider this:
If the system is a tree, the politicians its leafs and fruits, then we are indeed its root, and it is because of us, our apathy, ignorance and arrogance coupled with insane amount of regionalism, casteism, religious-favouritism that has resulted in the tree being forever shaken, leafs being perpetually dry and its fruits being horribly rotten.

What am I trying to say?

Don't blame. Period.

Want to do something? Then embrace the very blame and before stepping out to change the world, change yourself!

Even the Gandhi said something similar, didn't he?

I Come From Far Away Lands..

By Sadho Ram

...where the fields were green and mountains stood tall, where the winds blew like a virgin's shawl, where loneliness never crossed a rambler's path, where the sun played hide & seek with silvery clouds, where stars shone bright and moon never missed its 'stride', where people had a penchant for the 'lives of others', where the doors stayed open, and where someone always waited on the windows, where at times fathers stayed in and mothers went out, where Bhabhis 'played' with their Devars before they were 'touched' by their husbands, where it wasn't taboo to talk about sex, where no child was trafficked, where no women was raped, where murders didn't happen, where riots never took place because religion didn't exist, where love had a fountain and hate had a grave of its own, where people were people and not walking zombies, where culture was celebrated instead of egos, where friends existed, where life mattered, where relationships were build instead of buildings, in the mornings where birds sang and light danced to its tune, where a Kabuliwala always roamed the lanes and kids ran after him, where evenings were spent listening to Nani's tales, and the darkness of nights brought long-lost friends together, where warmth was shared under the open sky and palms rubbed in quick motion to whisk away the cold...

..and which makes me wish if only there existed a place like this, if only!

Just Another Rant

By Sadho Ram

Buniyad me hi 'gar kham ho phir imaarat to kya, ek deewar tak tik nahi sakti
(No building or even a wall can sustain itself when the very foundation itself is weak then)
...and that is what's wrong with me.. you.. us... sabke saath bas ek yahi toh chij hai jo galat hai!

Our ethics are crooked, morals are twisted (at least mine are) and we're talking about upliftment of the oppressed while oppressing so many in ways we don't even care to think about, emancipation of women while enslaving the very women who're in our life, eradication of corruption while contributing to the corrupt lot in ways we don't want to talk about, and what-not!

And so a bit righteously...
Mere desh-bhakton ki aisi sajjanta se mujhe meri makkaari jyada sachi lagti hai.
(I find my trickery/treachery more honest than the holiness of my country-loving proud people)

To be very blunt, the people who talk about equal rights and respect are the most treacherous of the lot out there that I have come across! And so, as Basir Badr saab says:

"Behad sharif logon se kuchh faasla rakho!"
Keep the very noble/highborn at some distance

and to add to his philosophy, here's my bit:

...ke sharafat se jyada kamini koi chij nahi
...because there is nothing more lowly than nobleness

Shut Up! You Have No Right To Dissent In 21st Century India

By Sadho Ram

India is fast losing its "sense of humor" when it comes to cartoons and with the growing intolerance against the political cartoons and cartoonists it's pretty much apparent. Moreover, in the very democracy which guarantees freedom of expression, there is no respect or for that matter tolerance towards any form of dissent against the system and its wrong-doings.

The whole country is at it again - arguing, debating, protesting, issuing online petitions - this time it’s in support and also in against of a defiant Cartoonist Aseem Trivedi, a free speech campaigner, who was arrested on sedition and two other charges for allegedly ‘mocking’ the parliament and symbols of national integrity in his anti-corruption cartoons, and was later sent to judicial custody till 24 September when he refused to apply for bail even as the police said are done with their investigation. granted bail on Tuesday by Bombay High Court on a personal bond of Rs 5000.

While voicing our dissent against his arrest, some of us are conflicted on the issue as to whether or not Aseem went too far in his dissent to show his disapproval of how our leaders are using the system and therefore, mocking it themselves.

This morning, Anshul Tewari, the editor-in-chief of Youth Ki Awaaz, asked me what do I think of this whole issue. Here’s the question that he posed:

“Am a bit conflicted. What do you think? I think Aseem should not have been jailed, but I do think his cartoons offend my national identity and the love I have for my country and its founding fathers.”

Image: SAYS.com

As a citizen of this country, I understand the sentiment behind the conflict, but as an individual, I stand clear on the issue. Aseem says he is proud of what he has done and will do repeatedly, and I think he should. Because he has not done anything wrong. He only did what any common man, given the courage and honesty, would do.

Being an artist, Aseem has a very powerful medium at his disposal, which off late has become sort of, if I can say, lethal, the sting of which our leaders are feeling. He has merely used that medium he knows too well to express his anger against the condition that plagues our nation today. His arrest, furthermore, shows that there is no space for any criticism of government’s wrong-doings, failures of our system and the apparent apathy that has gripped our constitution.

But that’s not all, the real issue behind all this is that when we or one of our ‘own’ does anything wrong, it’s okay by us, but when someone else goes ahead and shows us what we are doing is wrong in a manner, which I won’t deny, not only shocks but also to an extent hurts the sentiment of millions of those who hold the symbols of national integrity at high regard, we retaliate - and how - we slap the person with the most regressive and archaic law which British govt. used against any form of dissent of disapproval our freedom fighters showed during their freedom struggle.

I agree, with those who are against the ‘loudness’ of Aseem’s cartoons. They are in fact extremely provocative, no denying that. And for those who hold the symbols of national integrity and identity at high regard, it's kind of hurting too. I agree again. But, if only can we take a step back and ask ourselves, why are they provocative? Are they that way only because we value the symbols more than we value the human life?

Yes, we must be first able to answer this. What do we get by merely valuing the symbols of national integrity when we can’t value the moral code and meanings they carry with them?

Everyday, we see our leaders whom we chose to represent us, our voice inside the parliament and system, not giving any heed to the very image of it, don’t we? They behave like some lose goons inside closed walls, bickering NOT arguing or debating, and fighting with each other, therefore, completely ridiculing the very image of parliament and making a mockery out of it, not just to us but worldwide, why can't Aseem (or for that matter any of us), when faced with no other option but to show my dissent and disapproval of the way our system is working, go ahead and take such drastic step where he has to paint it as a commode (toilet)?

There comes a time when one needs the shock-value to wake us sleeping Indians!

In fact, the parliament shown as commode perfectly depicts the way our MPs and MLAs treats it. When they don’t agree with each other they resort to feast-fights, pushing & shoving and at times take out their sandals and slippers inside the very parliament to slap each other, does that upholds its image? I think it is such behaviors by our leaders inside and outside the parliament which demeans these symbols of national integrity more than Aseem’s cartoons could ever do.

So, ask yourself once again, did the image of the way our ministers conduct themselves inside Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha is in any way better than what Aseem chose to show us?

About Ajmal Kasab's cartoon, where he is shown as a dog pissing on the Constitution of India book - how is it wrong? He was caught red handed, and still the trial took over 4 years - and billion of money was spent on keeping the fellow safe who killed dozens of Indians without any regard or remorse. People who were innocent were killed, and we and our system kept and are still keeping this fellow safe - just so that we and our so-called constitution of India can be upheld and for what? Does this mean that we value a mere symbol more than we value human life?

The National Emblem, were the wolves have taken place of the mighty lions - is in what way wrong? Our country is being looted by the very system which governs us. The government, who was supposedly meant to protect us is looting us. Scams after scams. So when all these scams, corruption of mammoth scale, do not malign the face of National Emblem, how does an artist's caricaturish dissent maligns it?

We must understand that it’s not the symbols of national integrity which makes us, it is us, we as collective force, is what should define them. What use of those symbols of national identity when the very code of them is not upheld? We are the code, the human life, the symbols are what our forefathers chose to represent our country, but certainly not at the cost of human life.

Lastly, Aseem chose the national symbols to show his dissent because I don't think there was any other way to show it in more better and aghast manner equally. And seeing the way our government has acted on the basis of an individual's complaint, it's pretty much clear that India is no longer a country where any form of dissent is allowed or tolerated.

Corruption Is You: Think About It

By Sadho Ram

Is there a way to corruption OR corruption is the way? In a basket full of apples, where only few are rotten, we don't call it a basket full of rotten apples, why do we then call a society, where not everyone is corrupt, a corrupt society?

Is it because 'Hamam Mein Sab Nange Hain' (We are all nude in Public Bath) OR is it because 'Hamam HAI Toh Sab Nange Hain' (We are all nude BECAUSE there exist a Public Bath)?

Are we corrupt because we are corruptible OR are we corrupt because we don't care? And if my neighbor is corrupt, does it make me one too? If yes, will I be addressed as a good person IF my neighbor is one too?

If a homeless has no way to feed his hungry child, and no one is ready to give him a job, if he then makes some money by posing as blind, therefore, fooling the public, is NOT corrupt, why then a super rich person wanting to be more rich, goes on to do his business as usual, therefore, maybe fooling the public, is MOST corrupt?

A Note on Atheism

By Sadho Ram

Atheism is not a religion. The basic premise of atheism is to reject the very idea/belief in the existence of god, any god.

So if you identify yourself as an atheist, you are opposing god/religion (which is right), because if not then you are not an atheist or perhaps do not clearly understand atheism.

Religion, which was made by us, and the notion of god are co-dependent, without one, the other can't exist.

An atheist will never believe in any of those two, because if he/she does, then the very purpose of atheism fails, the person who identifies himself/herself as an atheist fails, the realization, the awareness, the knowledge and the observation that led to the person declaring himself/herself as an atheist... FAILS!

A Comment on The People of My Nation and Their Views on Aamir Khan for His Debut TV Show 'Satyamev Jayate'

By Sadho Ram

I just watched SATYAMEV JAYATE on YouTube, had missed out on it yesterday. I’ve been hearing a lot of people talking about it; some good and some bad as expected (for their common dislike for Aamir Khan and whatever he does). I didn't want to say anything about it till I saw. Now that I have, I do have a bit to say, although not entirely about the show itself, but about the people who have been targeting Aamir without much thinking and consideration and calling him all sorts of names and stuff.

On twitter, there's this bunch of "filmy intellectuals" who were after him since the first promo of SATYAMEV JAYATE was aired. Calling it another one of Aamir Khan's self promoting propaganda and all sorts of other things  , trying to point out to others how old he is looking on the promos and how much overacting he is doing. People even went on to joke about the way the promos are made, that in "one promo is he eating, in another he is having tea, and now what's next? Will we see him doing what we all do in the morning?"

But even now, after the show is out, with such a burning issue affecting our society, some too-smart-for-their-own-good kind of journalists and people are trying to point it out to him (Aamir) that he shouldn't have used sensationalism in the very first episode, TV is gripped with the idea of earning more and more TRPs and so people resort to such ways to garner more publicity for their shows. They further go on to say that he shouldn't have shown the story about the woman from the Muslim community whose husband literally chewed off her face for not bearing him a male child. That now the Right Wing Hindu Fundamentalists will further more attack the Muslim community and call them backwards and all that, and the Muslim community will now be seen in more wrong light than right.

To all such people and whoever are supporting them, I've one thing to say :- ‘GO EAT YOUR OWN SHIT!’

As far as the show is concerned, it’s not about his method acting or how good he is at what he does. Hell, the show is not even about him. It’s primarily about the issues affecting our society at large. He is just someone who being in a place, where people usually don’t actually bother about such issues and choose to ignore them and live their life happily forever, has choose to come out and speak about them to the nation at large. He is just a medium who is trying to bring the burning issues affecting Indian society to public eye and make them realize where they are going wrong or what needs to be done in order to make things right.

Have some decency, my fellow countrymen. Have some regard for a well intentioned effort. Have some respect for those rare few who actually bother to come out of their comfortable lives and try to make sense of things we sadly don’t seem to care about and make things right.

Our Greatest Fear

By Sadho Ram

Our greatest fear has got nothing to do with our belief that the person or the people we love are in return hating us.

No.
In fact, our greatest fear DOES NOT even get born from the fact that the person or the people we love may in return NOT LOVE US at all. As our love for others or even for someone special doesn't need their assurance that we are being loved in return (although we seek it regardless of the fact).

That we may end up all alone, that we might have nothing or no one to rely upon, that no one will remember us after we are gone, that we may never be good enough in our life or in our attempt for someone are all but part of a general idea of fear. The whole sum of them even does not amount to our greatest fear.

In reality our greatest fear IS THE IDEA or THE BELIEF that FORMS the EMOTIONAL PREMISE of loss and hurt that the person or the people we love and care about the most, may in return one day will NOT ONLY stop acknowledging us and our feelings but somewhere down the line even REFUSE US their VERY HATE, which they otherwise express or feel for things or people they do not like or have in some way hurt them or their feelings.

We live our life, breathing the greatest fear known to mankind, in frightened faith that there might never be such a day in our life, that there might never come that hopeless day in our journey where we might have to witness the greatest fear known to mankind - the utter refusal of any emotion or feeling of those people or the person towards us who we love and care about.

A Note on Hate

By Sadho Ram

In one way or the other we are all filled with hatred. No matter how much we proclaim our love for fellow human beings, at the end of the day it all comes down to this - hatred. Whether we realize it and accept it or not, the truth remains the same. It cannot change, so can't we. Hate is the opposite extreme of love, and till there's love in us, hate is bound to be. Men are growing intolerable towards women more than ever, and women aren't far behind. We hate their guts, they are hating us.

Religious fundamentalists are on the rise and so is their religious bigotry. Intolerance has become their religion and their religion has become intolerable. To speak against their bigotry, rationalists all around the world are on the rise. Rationalists of all kind and tribes and vibes. But instead of rationalizing or giving rational views, rationalists too are turning bigots, coming up with new types of bigotry. The teachers are hating students for thinking freely, the students are hating teachers for their old-thinking. Parents are hating their kids for their life-style, the kids are hating their parents for trying to control their way of living. Hate, it seems, has become the central force which moves people these days. Hate, it seems, has become the tool to get things done quickly, which everyone of us is hatefully happy to use it as frequently.

Although, as old as any emotion inside us, it would not be wrong to say that HATRED has emerged as a whole new religion among us.

Our intolerance towards each other is baffling and dangerously alarming. Hiding behind the masks of society, we are coming down on each other filled with more hatred than ever. Some even dare to come open. That's the kind of change our hatred has brought in us. We hate progress, labeling it as we please. We hate those who have succeeded, labeling them after the terrorists and thieves. We hate those who are trying to succeed. We hate everything that is moving forward. Then to top it, we hate everything that isn't moving.

In our journey filled with numerous kinds of hatred towards numerous kinds of things, we have all turned into chronic haters. So much so that, we have started hating ourselves. Therefore, hate isn't just another religion anymore, in fact, hate has become us and we have become hate.

I myself am a pretty hateful person. A major portion of my life so far has been devoted to hatred. And so has been of majority of others around me. Coming to think of it, hatred was the reason those people belonged to me and I to them. But hate is not immortal. There is an expiry date to it. It does die but only if we let ourselves free from its clutches. I think that's the reason that those people do not belong to me anymore and nor I to them.

Last words, as I see it, the combined hatred of all of us, is only growing, spreading itself, more and more. It can't be stopped, but it surely can be kept under control, if and ONLY IF we learn to adopt and accept each other for who and what we are. But that too can never happen. Realities as such do not exist even in dreams and books.

A Note on Mob!

By Sadho Ram

What is mob? It is probably the scariest place to be in. No matter which part of the world, a mob is what it is – a mob. It, the mob, is the epitome of recklessness, which a huge pile of the humans over humans over mindlessness of nothing signifies. Blind and deaf, foolhardy and arrogant, devoid of ethics and morals, derailed from any logic and reason, it just shoves itself in and against everything whenever it so wishes, whenever it’s provoked, in whatsoever circumstances. It acts on whims. It operates on nothing but whims. And only whims alone in it set its goals.

A mob is every society’s worst nightmare, representing its hypocritical stature. The purpose of which is to just make noise, the force of which is to just create ruckus. Agreed that oftentimes a mob has thrown a dictator out, but what after that? The very Mob fades away, falls down too. And in manners that it has never been able to rise again, ever. Only ashes remain.

On a personal note, I’ve never seen a mob with a cause worthy of the fury it exhales and the rage in which it becomes a horde of savages. The barbarism with which a mob unleashes itself unto anything and everything that falls within the limit of its reach and ravages the very core of the victims who become subjected to its mindless madness, leaves nothing for the mind to grasp. What remains behind, after the proud march of the mob, remains forever behind rotting and hissing in pain, whether it is a village, a city, a shop, a community or a woman. No one cares after that, no soul bothers to look behind. A mob then fades away into oblivion, only to resurface in some other corner of the earth. Like bubbles bursting in the hot tub of water, a mob bursts at one spot, creates turbulence, sets off and then bursts again at another, never letting the water to remain still.

“And the calm serenity of the water on the surface and beneath is forever disturbed, forever lost.”

Our country today is going through one such turbulence, which threatens to disrupt the otherwise normalcy that surrounds us. In past, there have been numerous mobs, causing innumerable amount of unfathomable damages to the very soul and spirit of the nation. But never before in the history of mobs, have been a mob as moronically arrogant and as childish in its caricaturish behaviour as such that of Old Anna’s. Yes, Anna Hazare is nothing but a mob. Heady in his stance against the Government’s stand on JAN LOKPAL BILL, he has taken the nation by a blind storm, causing baseless uproar for the so-called call for democracy where he himself seems to have transformed into a dictator.

Every man, woman, child and dog following Old Anna in his magnanimous  “August Kranti” march must not forget that such hysterical approaches only yield spineless results, which are born out of an another kind of hysteria. One which justifies nothing, signifies nothing, takes away a lot, giving out nothing. What remains in the platter is so worthless that it matters not anymore, even a bit. And that’s what is going to happen to the proposed JAN LOKPAL BILL, which, since it was first introduced by Shanti Bhushan in 1968, has today turned 43 years old. Since then its 9 consequent versions have been introduced and re-introduced but sadly none of these have ever passed.

And in the scuffle of Anna & Government, where both seems to be happily satisfied by their own self indulgence on the subject, utterly disregarding the constitution, fighting over it, I doubt this BILL too will ever be passed.

“A nation will never rise on the fury of a mob. And where a mob decides the fate of the dawn and dusk of a nation, everything becomes ash and in the distant horizon only thing rising is smoke.”
