Trust Me When I Say, You'll Be Wasting Your Time By Reading This

By Sadho Ram

I cannot count the number of times I have wondered how would my life be had I been speech-disabled. There have been so many occasions where I have regretted having the ability to speak.

Now, this is in no way a proof that I don't value it. It's just that there's this constant feeling inside which makes me wonder about the (im)possibility of such a life.

I mean, what use of such an ability which only hurts the ones I care about? More or less, it has been the case that whenever I have opened my mouth, I have uttered something vile or disgraceful for the ones I love and have loved.

There have also been times, where I have actually considered the very possibility of impairing my speech by myself. And the strange fact is that the thought doesn't scare me even one bit. It somehow seems like an ideal way to keep my unwarranted anger inside. Because it is something, which has only ruined the good stuff in my life so far, and I'm sure it will in future too.

Or, maybe I should train my mind to be in control and not wander.

But, the very idea of being speech-disabled is so fascinating to me, it almost makes me want to rip apart from venom-spewing tongue out of my mouth and wonder what the heck did I just do!

Maybe, one day I actually will..

PS: The sketches are totally not related to the whole thing. The whole thing, as I said in the heading itself, was a total time-waster.

A Profound Realisation In The (Prolonged) Moment Of Crisis...

By Sadho Ram

Sometimes, it so happens, I'm not sure about things that I do on daily basis. But, again as it so happens, this feeling of being uncertain doesn't last long enough to warrant any additional thinking.

Like for example: the futility of taking a bathe everyday.

PS: That's a sadhu, not Sadho.
Now this is a feeling I encounter when its just another option for me. But as soon as this option turns into a privilege, the very feelings of being uncertain departs my mind as a soul would body.

So, now that due to unmanaged circumstances, I am rendered out of taking bathe everyday, I realize that there's no futility to it. That how essential it is not just for body but also for mind and our emotions. I not only understand the profound impact a normal shower can have on us but also accept that I've been a baboon whenever I thought that there's nothing more futile than taking a shower. Sigh!

Just Another Monday Afternoon..

By Sadho Ram

I look forward to my Mondays as others may look forward to their Sundays. Its the day when I can choose to stay in bed for as long as I want and not worry about anything. Some days the Mondays are exciting, some days dull. It's a natural cycle.

Today is Monday. I am inside the quilt, reading Hanif Kureishi's 'The Last Word', a brilliant novel about an aspiring writer paid to write a biography of a larger than life writer.

N is sleeping next to me with her face resting on my right arm, while her right arm resting comfortably on my stomach. It feels good to have her by my side while I am lost in the world of my own. Relaxed, calm and in the moment to experience its comfort. N's warm breath feels soothing, almost like as if caressing.

She woke up for a second, apologized for dozing off, turned towards the other side, while putting her left arm on my thighs and going back to sleep again. I look at her, and go back to reading the novel, while waiting for the engineer from LG to come to repair the microwave at my place.

Catapult

By Sadho Ram

Life suddenly seems as if it has come to an unexpected halt.

Everything I do seems to have lost its charm. Or to put it in a better manner, I somehow seem to have lost interest in almost anything that I do or doing these days.

Mistakes have become an active part of my life both personally and professionally. As a result, I feel demotivated, demoralised and defeated... even though there is no war that I am fighting. Or maybe I am. Who knows!

There is also one more thing that is happening, I am losing interest in people in general. I live alone, so I only step out when I need to buy groceries and food items. Other times, I keep myself within the boundaries of my house, locked and glued to my laptop screen, working away the hours of day and at times... night.

I am scared to mingle with people of the outside world.

But that is not what I want to be. I don't want to be scared or to keep myself locked within the boundaries of my house.

I want to live and not just exist.

I am man with dreams in my eyes and purpose in my mind.

I want to break free from the shackles of my own mind and catapult into a free-self, someone who can learn to be empathetic, someone who understands the value of life and people in it... someone who is not afraid to live.

I wish to be catapulted into the world of calm and sanity, where mindlessness has no place and where light shines through even the darkest of nights.

Parasites!

By Sadho Ram

…and you thought I’m dead. And you celebrated my death. And you laughed. Hysterically. Insanely. Knowing that I’m dead. That I now am burnt to cinders. And you uttered your frustration of not being able to utter it while I was living. While I had what you considered not mine. But yours.

You feared that I would bring you out of your ignorance. Your age old slumber. Your blind hope. You feared that I would shatter your love for superficial things. Artificial beliefs. And you panicked. You shivered in your slumber. And you decided to kill me. You decided to hang me by my own rope. And you did it. You killed me in your foully ignorant thought. And now you are moaning? Because you know it hurts. Now you feel the pain that I told you would.

But you are afraid. Still too weak to show it. So you laugh. So you celebrate your own failure. Your own death at your own hand. You… you ignorant son of a conscious whore. You loathing seed of a foolhardy man.

You know it takes honesty. And you know it well. That thing called honesty to confront honesty. As it takes a hand to shake another. As it takes lips to kiss another. But you did never consider it a part. It was just a trait. It was only an option for you. A mere excuse for you to hide. To take refuge when you needed. When your own failure haunted you. So you played a game. A game of seeing the reality as it should and accepting the make-believes as it was intended. And what did you do, you courageous carrier of deceit and failure? You chose the latter!

You and Your Lunacy

By Sadho Ram

There dwells an ugliness
in these perversely disgruntled eyes
seeing, witnessing and distastefully savoring
the loathsome ugliness of yours, and your existence
that you, ever so miserably, oh so naïvély, try to cover

to put a pitiable façade, consumed by the ignorance and
filled with the belief that rots the pores of your stinking skin
and bottled up lies, dressed and well-prostituted,
Sold in the name of hope and miracle..

Ah, you and your lunacy, pleasures me much!

The Ever Futile Search For Substitutes

By Sadho Ram

Strange kind of species we are – we humans! Always crying and moaning over the gone era. Always reminiscing about the time went by. Almost living in the past we are. We cry over the fact that no one writes letter these days. But we forget another fact, much stronger – that we are now more connected to each of those people who matters to us, and also connected to the world like never before.

The news of our loved one’s reaches to us in an instant. We now don’t have to wait for weeks and months to hear from them. They are just a call or a message away, always at reach. Though far but still near, almost as if close, as close as we want them to be.

I’m aware though that the kind of emotions letters often carried is lost due to our today’s instant messaging, but then aren't we ourselves are responsible for it?

Our hunger, which can well be called as vulgar greed for more, makes us blind. So blind that in our attempt to explore, we go to such length and height that we actually become monsters, and eat away what gives us satisfaction and then search for substitutes in the name of betterment. But there is no substitute for such stuff in life. There never was, there never will.

So either embrace the new sun or die sulking. The choice is yours, because whatever happens here, you are included. For if this is a crime, then yes, you are a partner-in-crime!

..and oh, you cannot exist by trying to escape the reality, and the sooner you realize the better you will be able to embrace the world as it is!

Condemn a Writer to Hell and When a Poet Dies. Rejoice. Celebrate!

By Sadho Ram

Writing is a profession of the downtrodden and despicables. For there is nothing more disgraceful than being a 'writer.' For writers are but the carrier of unfulfilled dreams and failed destinations. And, they deserve your strongest of contempt. Condemn them to hell (if such a place exists), or simply neglect them and they will die the very death they keep frightening you with.

And, there's nothing more disgusting a creature than a poet, you see. For a poet's imagination is the reason behind the sadness that prevails in other peoples lives. Precisely the reason why I keep saying that the lives of others depends on a poet and his illusionary imagination. Which is nothing but a sad, sad reality in this sadistic world.

You see what a poet does is not simply write poetry (which at times is shittier than the shittiest of shit the mankind produces in abundance every morning).

What a poet does is that he essentially cripples the mind of the people.

You will ask how?

Well, a poet makes you a slave to his words and stops you from thinking for yourself. And once you become a slave to a poet's work, you start depending on him for things you would never depend on others. For his words don't give wings to your imaginations. They only act as an illusion. It's his own imagination in which you are made to fly or something like that. You start depending on him in such a manner that you expect him to give words to your emotions, expressions to your motions, and tell you how things work. And I will be honest with you here, to me that is just pathetic.

So when a poet dies. Rejoice. Celebrate!

Throw a party and use the pages from his books as napkins, and before you toss the used pages away, make sure the words appear like as dark, unreadable blots. For that is the kind of respect he deserves. For you see, the day a poet is born, is the day mankind dies a death.

Therefore, do not ever mourn a poet. And, never cry for a writer whom you condemned to hell.

Why A Pimp Deserves More Respect Than A Poet Should Ever Get!

By Sadho Ram

There are chances that a Pimp will have more respect for your money than a Poet will ever have for your emotions.

Agreed that the profession of a Pimp is to sell flesh―alive, breathing flesh that has been oppressed to satisfy the naked but natural hunger dwelling inside those dogs who walk the nights on two legs with another hanging in between. But the profession of a Poet is far more worse and loathsome.

You see, a poet not only uses your naivety to lure you in―therefore making you his slave, he even captures the most essential, the most important part of you―your mind and makes you his puppet, and then plays with your emotions in manners that even when you want to curse him, you end up appreciating the myth he created in front of your gullible eyes.

So you see, what a Pimp does is no doubt degradable and should be condemned to the very core of it, but what a Poet does for a living should invite the wretchedest of criticism. And while you condemn the profession of a Pimp (but not the Pimp himself), it IS the Poet himself that you should condemn and condemn like you have never condemned anything else (maybe even to death).

Be In The Moment!

By Sadho Ram

Be in the moment. I'm learning to be. You too can try, it's not that hard, you see.

Smile when something good happens, cry when you feel down. Don't hold yourself back, don't put a leash on your emotions thinking that this moment will pass. It will, yes. But that doesn't mean you stop appreciating the moments in your life that makes you feel―be it anything, good or bad―doesn't matter!

What matters (and should only actually matter) is that you enjoy the very moment in which things may be perfect and not ruin it by contemplating that soon it will not be the same. I know it's damn hard to control the urge to not let the negativity do the waltz inside you, but until and unless you try, and try you with all that you hold inside, how can you succeed?

I mean things are never the same, are they? So shouldn't we focus our attention on the present situation (whatever it may be) and take it as it is?

Remember, life is what happens to you in the present when you're too busy making plans for future!

I Will Be Judging You!

By Sadho Ram

I will judge you on the basis of what you do for a living and I will judge you on the premise of your thinking. I will judge you in every single step you taketo move ahead or to step back! I will judge you by the colour of your skin and by the tone of your voice and the manner in which you speak.

I will judge you in the light of the day and in the darkness of the night. I will judge you by the language in which you take pride and I will judge you by how you treat those who doesn't. I will judge you by the religion you follow, and by the beliefs you stand by. I will judge you for your godlessness. I will judge you by how you judge others. I will judge you in your worst. I will judge you in your best and I will judge you even in your mediocrity and by the hypocrisy you possess. I will judge you no matter.

For I am the society that commands and rules over you, and so I will judge you by the name you go by and I will judge you by who you claim to be and I will judge you for blaming others of being judgmental of you. I will judge you in your dreams and in your nightmares too. I will judge you in everything you do.

For I am the source where you come from, and so I will judge you by how you eat, walk and sleep. I will judge you for every whistle you blow. I will judge you when you are not wearing much and more so when you are fully covered.

I will judge you, I will judge you, yes, I will judge you ― whenever I so wish to do.

You tell me, what are you going to do?

I Come From Far Away Lands..

By Sadho Ram

...where the fields were green and mountains stood tall, where the winds blew like a virgin's shawl, where loneliness never crossed a rambler's path, where the sun played hide & seek with silvery clouds, where stars shone bright and moon never missed its 'stride', where people had a penchant for the 'lives of others', where the doors stayed open, and where someone always waited on the windows, where at times fathers stayed in and mothers went out, where Bhabhis 'played' with their Devars before they were 'touched' by their husbands, where it wasn't taboo to talk about sex, where no child was trafficked, where no women was raped, where murders didn't happen, where riots never took place because religion didn't exist, where love had a fountain and hate had a grave of its own, where people were people and not walking zombies, where culture was celebrated instead of egos, where friends existed, where life mattered, where relationships were build instead of buildings, in the mornings where birds sang and light danced to its tune, where a Kabuliwala always roamed the lanes and kids ran after him, where evenings were spent listening to Nani's tales, and the darkness of nights brought long-lost friends together, where warmth was shared under the open sky and palms rubbed in quick motion to whisk away the cold...

..and which makes me wish if only there existed a place like this, if only!

I'm a Sucker for a lot of things..

By Sadho Ram

...and cinema happens to be on top of the list! Good, bad, it doesn't matter how a particular film is, I've got to watch it. And not just Hindi or English films, I watch films in language I don't understand a shit about and that too without the subtitles (in case I have to when I don't find subtitles for them)!

Back in village, about 15-16 years ago, I would steal money from my father's pocket to go watch films in the only theater my village had. It would cost 5 rupees per ticket, I would get caught, get thrashed by him but couldn't let go of the habit.

I don't know why, but the emotions that run through me while watching filmsfills me up with immense joy, a kind of satisfaction I can't really describe!

I laugh, I cry, I rejoice, I clapat times I jump from my seat, I whistle, I shoutI make noises that annoy other viewers (although none of it is intentional, I guess I just lose myself while watching a film)in sort, I celebrate cinema the way it should be celebrated (according to me).

Although I try to contain myself when I'm inside the theater as much as I can, but I forget everything when I'm watching a film inside my house. And maybe that's the reason I like to go to movies aloneall by myself!

This world, my life wouldn't be the same for me had it not been for films!

Just Another Rant

By Sadho Ram

Buniyad me hi 'gar kham ho phir imaarat to kya, ek deewar tak tik nahi sakti
(No building or even a wall can sustain itself when the very foundation itself is weak then)
...and that is what's wrong with me.. you.. us... sabke saath bas ek yahi toh chij hai jo galat hai!

Our ethics are crooked, morals are twisted (at least mine are) and we're talking about upliftment of the oppressed while oppressing so many in ways we don't even care to think about, emancipation of women while enslaving the very women who're in our life, eradication of corruption while contributing to the corrupt lot in ways we don't want to talk about, and what-not!

And so a bit righteously...
Mere desh-bhakton ki aisi sajjanta se mujhe meri makkaari jyada sachi lagti hai.
(I find my trickery/treachery more honest than the holiness of my country-loving proud people)

To be very blunt, the people who talk about equal rights and respect are the most treacherous of the lot out there that I have come across! And so, as Basir Badr saab says:

"Behad sharif logon se kuchh faasla rakho!"
Keep the very noble/highborn at some distance

and to add to his philosophy, here's my bit:

...ke sharafat se jyada kamini koi chij nahi
...because there is nothing more lowly than nobleness

... And So We Must Rise Before We Die A Death With Every Tock!

By Sadho Ram

Helplessness—of all the worst feelings in the world known to human beings out there—is the most worst of them all!

Helplessness—in the face of an apparent problem which one may know how to solve but is unable to—why—because the feeling of helplessness makes them feel just inadequate or plain hopeless!

Helplessness—that's what it does. No matter how strong a person maybe—this feeling—the helplessness makes a man incompetent.

Incompetent towards himself. Insufficient for himself. Insecure about himself.

And if untreated, left in the hands of fate and destiny, gradually but surely the very feeling of helplessness grows and grows like... cancer, YES, cancer, advancing, slowly but surely to its last stage—a stage from where there's no return!

It is then that this helplessness doesn't just remain merely what it is, it becomes something bigger, something more worse than worst of things, something so gigantic that when the realization hits us—the realization of this final stage of helplessness—we see nothing but foggy darkness, the line between reality and fantasy blurs, the emotions and feelings that may have kept us going—starts coming out in layers!

And with every tick we lose a breath and we die a death with every tock!

But wait, that's not the end of it—certainly not the end of us. We are better than that and we deserve better—much, much better!

It is now that we—the helpless, hopeless beings—shall rise—rise like a Phoenix rises from his ashes—no, not because life is a fairy tale but because life isn't a fairy tale. So, we must rise in the face of each adversary—no matter how Goliath-like they may appear at first, second, third or even at further sights—because there's a little David in every one of us—a David whose purpose is to discover itself within the self—and which can only be done in the face of Goliath-like adversaries.

Because no matter what—when the cause, the reason behind helplessness is realized or figured out—it can be stopped—much like the cancer if it's detected in the first stage!

Because there is nothing that can put us down but we—ourselves! Because there is no one out there who knows what it takes to wake up every morning even though we don't want to but we must because life is not a fairy tale because standing up for ourselves is the first stand we make because at the end of the day when we go back to bed that's what counts the most because those who don't stand up for themselves, certainly cannot stand for others because a house first must have strong foundation in order to sustain itself so that it can sustain a roof for others over its walls because... because we must first come first to us before others because in this life-long journey of constant adversaries it is us who won't desert us, who won't leave our side because whatever may be the circumstance—helplessness or hopelessness—cannot last forever—because they are not meant to because almost nothing ever last that long because all we need is to wake up, make a stand, face the problems whatever they maybe, look into its eye and say—enough is enough!

Remembering My Mother

By Sadho Ram

Saroj Devi, my mother!
12 years ago, today was the day, when surrounded by many a strange faces, a few stranger feelings and a wailing-like-a-child father, in the midst of cold August wind blowing calmly over the shaved off head of mine and graveyard dogs howling afar, and night sky covered with heavy clouds.. clouds seeming as if ready to burst.. pour.. come down, and those strange faces moving, changing shades.. shapes and chattering along the sides of Bhāgīrathī river at Jangipur town, I put fire in her mouth at the stroke of midnight while she lay, like a tired traveler after a long and tedious journey finally given a bed to rest, on her pyre made up of sandalwood logs.. and watched her body burn into cinders.. 12 years it's been today. And 12 years is a long time for a soul to wander. Hope her soul has found its place and now rests in peace!

Corruption Is You: Think About It

By Sadho Ram

Is there a way to corruption OR corruption is the way? In a basket full of apples, where only few are rotten, we don't call it a basket full of rotten apples, why do we then call a society, where not everyone is corrupt, a corrupt society?

Is it because 'Hamam Mein Sab Nange Hain' (We are all nude in Public Bath) OR is it because 'Hamam HAI Toh Sab Nange Hain' (We are all nude BECAUSE there exist a Public Bath)?

Are we corrupt because we are corruptible OR are we corrupt because we don't care? And if my neighbor is corrupt, does it make me one too? If yes, will I be addressed as a good person IF my neighbor is one too?

If a homeless has no way to feed his hungry child, and no one is ready to give him a job, if he then makes some money by posing as blind, therefore, fooling the public, is NOT corrupt, why then a super rich person wanting to be more rich, goes on to do his business as usual, therefore, maybe fooling the public, is MOST corrupt?

A Note on Atheism

By Sadho Ram

Atheism is not a religion. The basic premise of atheism is to reject the very idea/belief in the existence of god, any god.

So if you identify yourself as an atheist, you are opposing god/religion (which is right), because if not then you are not an atheist or perhaps do not clearly understand atheism.

Religion, which was made by us, and the notion of god are co-dependent, without one, the other can't exist.

An atheist will never believe in any of those two, because if he/she does, then the very purpose of atheism fails, the person who identifies himself/herself as an atheist fails, the realization, the awareness, the knowledge and the observation that led to the person declaring himself/herself as an atheist... FAILS!

Just Another Thought

By Sadho Ram

पोथी-पात्थर ढूँढता, क्यूँ भटके, ए राही |

राम तेरे अन्दर है, तुझमे समाया इलाही ||

Pothi-paatthar dhoondta, kyun bhatke, aye raahi..

Ram tere andar hai, tujhme samaya ilaahii.
To those who search for god.. whose life is a quest to find god out there.. I say.. leave the bibles and qurans and geetas and scriptures aside.. step away from the shadows of statues and symbols and signs.. step away before you lose yourself in the madness of this bottomless pit.. and look within.. look inside.. your mind.. your heart.. for if your belief is strong and if you do believe in him (or her?) then whoever that he (she?) is.. whether or not he (she?) is true in the sense of world and science ..you will find him (her?) within you.. present inside your mind.

A Comment on The People of My Nation and Their Views on Aamir Khan for His Debut TV Show 'Satyamev Jayate'

By Sadho Ram

I just watched SATYAMEV JAYATE on YouTube, had missed out on it yesterday. I’ve been hearing a lot of people talking about it; some good and some bad as expected (for their common dislike for Aamir Khan and whatever he does). I didn't want to say anything about it till I saw. Now that I have, I do have a bit to say, although not entirely about the show itself, but about the people who have been targeting Aamir without much thinking and consideration and calling him all sorts of names and stuff.

On twitter, there's this bunch of "filmy intellectuals" who were after him since the first promo of SATYAMEV JAYATE was aired. Calling it another one of Aamir Khan's self promoting propaganda and all sorts of other things  , trying to point out to others how old he is looking on the promos and how much overacting he is doing. People even went on to joke about the way the promos are made, that in "one promo is he eating, in another he is having tea, and now what's next? Will we see him doing what we all do in the morning?"

But even now, after the show is out, with such a burning issue affecting our society, some too-smart-for-their-own-good kind of journalists and people are trying to point it out to him (Aamir) that he shouldn't have used sensationalism in the very first episode, TV is gripped with the idea of earning more and more TRPs and so people resort to such ways to garner more publicity for their shows. They further go on to say that he shouldn't have shown the story about the woman from the Muslim community whose husband literally chewed off her face for not bearing him a male child. That now the Right Wing Hindu Fundamentalists will further more attack the Muslim community and call them backwards and all that, and the Muslim community will now be seen in more wrong light than right.

To all such people and whoever are supporting them, I've one thing to say :- ‘GO EAT YOUR OWN SHIT!’

As far as the show is concerned, it’s not about his method acting or how good he is at what he does. Hell, the show is not even about him. It’s primarily about the issues affecting our society at large. He is just someone who being in a place, where people usually don’t actually bother about such issues and choose to ignore them and live their life happily forever, has choose to come out and speak about them to the nation at large. He is just a medium who is trying to bring the burning issues affecting Indian society to public eye and make them realize where they are going wrong or what needs to be done in order to make things right.

Have some decency, my fellow countrymen. Have some regard for a well intentioned effort. Have some respect for those rare few who actually bother to come out of their comfortable lives and try to make sense of things we sadly don’t seem to care about and make things right.
